Gauri Somnath Temple is believed to have been built in the eleventh century. A.D. and is one of several shrines dedicated to the Lord Shiva in Omkareshwar. The Gauri Somnath temple has a huge 6-feet linga made of black stone. Goddess Parvati and Shiva idols are located behind this linga. Temple is constructed in the Bhumji style of architecture, in the shape of a star. Located on a Hindu pilgrimage path, Gauri Somnath temple figures prominently during festival periods when huge numbers of locals and pilgrims travel to Omkareshwar to celebrate.
It is the place where the rivers Narmada & cauveri meet. Two chakruwartis (great & best emperous) ten kaamdevs (most beautiful men) & 3 ½ crore munis (jain saints) attained salvation from here. In the year 1878 AD. Bhattaraka Mahendrakirtiji saw in his dream that there are idols of lord chandraprabh lord Aadinathji & a huge temple at this place. The place came in to light after it’s repair & pratishtha in the year 1894 A.D. Annual Fair: On the day of falgun sudi 15 & exam chaitra vadi 1 & on the day of holi. Narmada Kaveri Sangam is a sacred confluence of two rivers, Narmada and Kaveri, in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh.
